Full moons and new moons

The exact moment of every phase in 2026 and 2027: date, Moscow time, and the Moon's sign and degree.

All times are Moscow time (UTC+3). Russia has not shifted its clocks since 2014, so the offset is the same in winter and in summer: to get UTC, subtract three hours. The dates and times on this page are not typed into the text by hand: they are calculated from the ephemeris by the same engine that builds our birth charts, and recalculated every time the page refreshes.

What this table shows

A full moon or a new moon is not “somewhere around mid-month” — it is an exact moment. A new moon arrives when the angle between the Sun and the Moon, seen from Earth, becomes exactly 0°; a full moon, when it becomes exactly 180°. That moment is the same for the entire planet: the phase happens simultaneously in Moscow, London and Sydney, and only the reading on the clock differs. That is why every event below carries not just a date, but an hour and a minute.

Between two identical phases lies a synodic month — on average 29 days 12 hours 44 minutes. “On average” is doing real work here: the actual interval drifts between 29.27 and 29.83 days, because the Moon's orbit is an ellipse and its speed varies from 11.8 to 15.4 degrees a day. That is why a calendar of phases cannot be built by simple addition: every new moon has to be computed separately. Which is exactly what happens here.

Astrologically, a new moon is the point where the Sun and the Moon stand at the same degree of the same sign: for the first time in a month, conscious intention and emotional need are looking in the same direction. It is the start of a cycle, a time to formulate rather than to take stock. A full moon is the opposite pole: the Moon lands in the sign across from the Sun, and whatever has been ripening for two weeks becomes visible. Hence the full moon's reputation as the time when “everything comes out” — not mysticism, just maximum contrast between the two halves of the chart.

The sign and degree in the table are the Moon's position at the exact moment of the phase. At a full moon the Sun automatically stands in the opposite sign: Moon in Cancer means Sun in Capricorn. At a new moon both luminaries share one sign and one degree. The degree matters if you have your own chart: a phase that falls within two or three degrees of one of your planets, or of a chart angle, works noticeably harder than the general background does.

A year normally holds 12 full moons — one a month. But the synodic month is almost a full day shorter than the calendar month, so every two or three years a thirteenth accumulates: two full moons land inside a single calendar month. The second of them is called a blue moon, although colour has nothing to do with it. Such months are visible straight from the table: they carry two “Full Moon” rows.

Common questions

When is the next full moon?
Find the first “Full Moon” row in the table above that comes after today's date — the exact Moscow time sits next to it. The list is not stored in the text: it is recalculated from the ephemeris, so it never goes stale and never drifts away from the actual sky.
Why do different sites give times a minute or two apart?
Most often it is time zones: one calendar gives UTC, another local time. If the gap really is under a minute, the cause is the model used for the Sun's position: the apparent position differs from the geometric one by about 20 arcseconds, and that shifts the computed moment by less than a minute. A gap of a whole day almost always means an event near midnight that fell on different dates in different zones.
Are a new moon and a full moon the same thing as an eclipse?
An eclipse is a new or full moon that happens near a lunar node — that is, at a moment when the Moon crosses the plane of Earth's orbit. An ordinary phase passes above or below the Sun–Earth line, so there is no shadow. A year brings between four and seven eclipses; their dates are collected in the transit calendar.
What sign will the full moon be in?
The sign of each phase has its own column — it is the Moon's sign at the exact moment of the aspect. The Sun spends about a month in each sign, so full moons move through the zodiac in order: if this one is a full moon in Cancer, the next will be in Leo.
Can you plan things around the Moon's phases?
A phase guarantees no outcome and forbids no action. A sensible frame goes like this: the new moon suits formulating things and taking first steps, the waxing Moon suits building up, the full moon suits checking in and speaking plainly, the waning Moon suits finishing and clearing out. It is a rhythm for planning, not a forecast of events.
Where do the dates in this calendar come from?
From calculation. The page takes the ecliptic longitudes of the Sun and the Moon at any given moment and finds the time when the angle between them becomes exactly 0° or 180°, accurate to the minute. The same engine computes the birth charts in the service, so the dates in the calendar and the dates in a reading cannot disagree.

And what will this phase do to your chart?

The calendar shows what is happening in the sky. A personal reading shows which house and which of your own planets a particular new moon lands on — and which area of life you will feel it in.
